What is Metaverse?
The metaverse is a virtual reality (VR) space that enables users to interact with each other inside a computer-generated environment. In 2021, Facebook’s parent company rebranded to Meta, expanding its focus beyond social media to encompass building the metaverse. The Facebook metaverse refers to Facebook (or, Meta's) contribution to the metaverse. It's a virtual reality-based social platform.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), describes the metaverse as a place to “connect, work, play, learn, and shop"
Here are a few Facebook metaverse features:
Horizon Worlds. With the rebranding of Facebook to Meta came the introduction of Horizon Worlds, “an ever-expanding social universe” with “over 10,000 worlds and experiences,” and the expansion of its Meta Quest VR gear offerings [2]. The application uses VR technology, controllable animation, and physics to replicate objects in the physical world. It offers multiplayer gaming, music, interactive puzzles, sports, films, and more.
Horizon Workrooms. Horizon Workrooms is designed to simulate an in-person workplace experience. It's a virtual space that includes collaboration tools for businesses to use.
Horizon Venues. Have you ever wished you could attend a concert or a sports game from the comfort of your own home? Horizon Venues aims to deliver that experience by providing users with computerized simulations of event spaces.
Does Facebook own the metaverse?
People often colloquially use the term metaverse to refer to Facebook's contribution to the metaverse. However, Facebook's metaverse is just one part of a much larger metaverse. Currently, the metaverse isn’t one interconnected space. It's made up of many individual worlds and owned by many different entities. For example, Minecraft’s world exists separately from Fortnight’s world. However, they are both considered a part of the metaverse. Each one has its own avatars, currency, rules, and access points.
Other metaverse use cases
Roblox, a popular gaming platform, is a storefront where users can select the games they want to play. Basic play is free, and the company sells Robux currency to access more advanced play.
Microsoft created digital solutions for training manufacturing and engineering employees and has been working with the US Army to develop virtual training for soldiers [3].
Google’s Project Starline is a holographic video conferencing platform designed to simulate in-person interaction.
List of celebrities that own land in Metaverse 2023
Interest in metaverse real estate has increased when Facebook declared it would change its name to Meta and focus on constructing its digital reality. Several celebrities and corporations, including Gucci, Snoop Dogg, Daler Mehndi, Warner Music Group, and others, have already purchased real estate in the metaverse.
However, selecting the right virtual land is influenced by many of the same considerations as selecting the right real-world real estate: When selecting a platform and a parcel, location, utilization, and long-term potential are all important factors to consider.

Would you pay $450,000 to be Snoop Dogg’s digital neighbor?
Somebody did that in December, Decrypt reports, as the famous rapper was selling a “parcel” in the Snoopverse, which is the metaverse that he built in the Sandbox platform, where he plans to host events and has built a virtual replica of his house.
Parcels of metaverse real estate near other celebrities are selling at premium prices too. In January alone, sales of metaverse real estate topped $85 million, according to MetaMetric Solutions.
A report from BrandEssence Market research shows that between 2022 and 2028, the metaverse real estate market is expected to see a compound annual growth rate of 31%.
