~(으)면 안 되다
V-(으)면 안 되다 means "may not, not allowed"
~which express prohibition or limitation of an action which represents social conventions or common sense (can also means "may not, to be not allowed")
- Double negative form -지 않으면 안 되다 can be used to emphasize that a particular action must be performed.
USAGE :
Words ending in vowel or ㄹ + -면 안 되다:
가다 -- 가면 안 되다
보다 -- 보면 안 되다
운동하다 -- 운동하면 안 되다
쓰다 -- 쓰면 안 되다
Words ending in consonant + -으면 안 되다:
앉다 -- 앉으면 안 되다
받다 -- 받으면 안 되다
*듣다 -- 들으면 안 되다
*붓다 -- 부으면 안 되다
AV~(으)면 안 되다 express not only prohibition but also can be used as questions, ie:
A. AV~(으)면 안 되다 is used in asking questions in the POSITIVE approach, such as examples :
1. 이렇게 하면 안 돼요
= Can’t you do it like this?or Is it okay if you do is like this?
2. 더 빨리 하면 안 돼요?
= Can’t you do it faster? or
Is it okay if you do it faster?
B. AV~(으)면 안 되다 is used in asking questions in NEGATIVE approach, such as examples:
1.이렇게 안 하면 안돼?
Can you not do it like this? or Is it okay if you don't do it like this?
2. 밥을 지금 암 먹으면 안돼?
Can we not eat now? or Is it okay if we don't eat now?
C. AV~(으)면 안 되다 is also used to ask politely for something to be done.Usually adding 아/어 주다, such as :
1. 오빠, 아이스크림을 사주면 안돼?
Oppa, can you buy me ice cream?
2. 오빠 지금 시간을 조금더 주면 안돼?
Oppa, can you give me more time?
