Summary of Verses (78-86) of Chapter # 5 Surah Al Ma'idah:
These Verses emphasize that the Children of Israel were cursed for their disobedience and failure to prevent wrongdoing. Many of them befriended disbelievers, leading to Allah’s anger and eternal punishment, If they had believed in Allah and the Prophet and what has been revealed to him, they would not have taken them as allies, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
The Jews and polytheists show the most animosity towards believers, while Christians, due to their humility, are more affectionate. When they listen to what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses. And why should we not believe in Allah and what has come to us of the truth? And we aspire that our Lord will admit us to the company of the righteous people and who recognize the truth and believe are rewarded with Paradise. Those who disbelieve and deny Allah's signs are destined for Hell.
These verses highlight the disobedience and the consequences faced by certain groups among the Children of Israel, contrast the animosity of some groups with the affection of others towards the believers, and reward the believers who acknowledge and accept the truth.
