Summary of Verses (1-5) of Chapter # 5 Surah Al Ma'idah:
Believers are urged to fulfill their promises and respect sacred symbols, including sacrificial animals and sacred months and it Prohibits violating sacred symbols and encourages cooperation in righteousness, not sin. Urges fairness, even towards enemies.
Lists of the forbidden foods are mention such as carrion, blood, pork, animals not slaughtered in Allah's name, and those killed by certain methods. Declares the religion perfected and Allah's favor complete. It Permits consumption of lawful and good food, including what trained hunting animals catch, if Allah's name is mentioned. Emphasizes fearing Allah.
Lawful foods include the food of the People of the Book (Christians and Jews), and their food is permissible for Muslims.
