Simple sentences
What is a simple sentence?
A simple sentence is made up of one SUBJECT, a VERB and Object.
What is a SUBJECT, VERB and OBJECT?
SUBJECT: The one that does the action.
How do I identify the subject?
(Who or what?
VERB: The action word (e.g. playing, close, jumping)
How do I identify a verb?
(What happened or what was the action?)
OBJECT: Receives the action.
How to identify an object?
(The subject did what? To who?)
What is a SUBJECT, VERB and OBJECT?
Let's do an example:
My mom is baking a cake.
Let's identify the subject: Who is baking the cake? MOM
Let's identify the verb: What is the action? Baking
Let's identify the object: What is mom baking? A cake
Another example:
Cleo kicked a ball.
Subject?
Verb?
Object?
Some simple sentences don't include an object. But they have a Subject and a Verb.
For example:
He ran.
She baked.
It is barking.
Think of a simple sentence using only a Subject and a verb. Share with the class.
Exercise
Write down 3 simple sentences and share with the class. Include your SUBJECT, VERB and OBJECT.
