SHERLOCK HOLMES: CHAPTER 1 Vocabulary Words: 1. Predominates: to be the biggest or most plentiful or most powerful of all. Example: "In his eyes, she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex." 2. Akin: similar. Example: "It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler." 3. Abhorrent: offensive, strong dislike or hatred. Example: "All emotions, and that one particularly were abhorrent to his cold, precise but admirably balanced mind."
