Shenanigans

“Sweet Taboo” The theme of forbidden fruit has seduced us since our very first days in the garden. There is something deliciously captivating about the taboo, something that beckons our defiant curiosity and dares us to rebel against the doctrine of dogma. Knowledge, intimate connection to the divine, sexuality, natural remedies, cosmic mysteries, unconventional love… In what ways are we tempted to shrug off society’s pressures of conformity and embrace our wonder? In a reckoning of outside authority we must make a personal calculation of value, weighing the past and the future, what is worth preserving and what is a burden to our growth. We must take care to not recklessly dismiss tradition, while also embracing new, challenging ideas and experiences. The fruit can be found in claiming our own inner agency to discern what is true or false, what is poison or medicine, what is bitter or what is sweet… Musings & Art by & shared via Autumn Skye ART “Sweet Taboo” 16”x20” acrylic on canvas, 2022 ✨Original painting and prints are now available in #AutumnSkyeArt Etsy shop

1 Kings 3:16–28 recounts that two mothers living in the same house, each the mother of an infant son, came to Solomon. One of the babies had been smothered, and each claimed the remaining boy as her own. Calling for a sword, Solomon declared his judgment: the baby would be cut in two, each woman to receive half. One mother did not contest the ruling, declaring that if she could not have the baby then neither of them could, but the other begged Solomon, "Give the baby to her, just don't kill him!" The king declared the second woman the true mother, as a mother would even give up her baby if that was necessary to save its life, and awarded her custody. This judgment became known throughout all of Israel and was considered an example of profound wisdom.
