Explanation of Sentence Types
1️⃣ Simple Sentence
✅ Definition: A sentence that has one independent clause. It expresses a complete thought and has a subject and a verb.
✅ Structure:
[Subject] + [Verb] (+ Object/Complement)
✅ Examples:
I like coffee. ☕️
She runs every morning. 🏃♀️
The cat is sleeping. 🐱
✅ Key Feature:
One independent clause
No dependent clauses
2️⃣ Compound Sentence
✅ Definition: A sentence that has two or more independent clauses joined by:
Coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)
Semicolon (;)
✅ Structure:
[Independent Clause] + (FANBOYS or ;) + [Independent Clause]
✅ Examples:
I like coffee, but she prefers tea. ☕️🍵
She studied hard, so she passed the exam. 🎓
The sun is shining; the birds are singing. ☀️🐦
✅ Key Feature:
At least two independent clauses
No dependent clauses
3️⃣ Complex Sentence
✅ Definition: A sentence that has one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
✅ Structure:
[Dependent Clause] + [Independent Clause]
[Independent Clause] + [Dependent Clause]
✅ Examples:
Because it was raining, we stayed inside. 🌧🏠
She was happy when she heard the news. 😊
I will go to the park if it is sunny. 🌞
✅ Key Feature:
One independent clause
