Reading English Poems with Christelle, Poet: Dan
Welcome to English Trainer Christelle's poem reading class!
Poem Credit:
These sets of poems are created by my talented student, Dan (Depender), which has made him win awards for such outstanding work.
Goal:
The goal of this lesson is to help you practice your English reading and pronunciation skills.
We will also shortly discuss the meaning behind each poem and learn some vocabulary words after. I will be asking everyone to participate.
Poem #1 Vocabulary:
1. Numb: unable to feel anything.
Example: "My fingers went numb and I couldn't reply."
2. Setback: to slow the progress of something.
To hinder or delay.
Example: "I was broken and took that moment as my life's biggest setback."
3. Stunned: very shocked or surprised.
Example: "I was stunned seeing her kindness."
4. Confronted: to face, meet, or deal with a difficult situation or person.
Example: "I confronted that I'll re-link
our separated track."
Poem #2 Vocabulary:
1. Apparently: according to what seems to be true or what is likely, based on what you know.
Example: "Apparently, everyday I tried everything I could to find you."
2. Insanely: in an uncontrollable manner.
Example: "Insanely everyday I was dying to get you."
3. Evidently: to describe something that's obvious or easily understood.
Example: "Evidently every day in my dreams it was only me and you."
Poem #3 Vocabulary:
1. Fascination: the state of being greatly
interested in or delighted by something.
Example: "Never let anybody knew that she exits and only she is my fascination."
2. Timeless: having no beginning or end.
Example: "Yet my love is timeless because it has no limitation."
3. Impose: means to force or
inflict something on someone else.
Example: "I don't want to impose my love on her."
Poem #3 Vocabulary:
4. Hennessy: one strength, one energy.
Example:"She is my hennessy."
5. Symphony: Literally means a long musical composition for a full orchestra. But in this case, he is expressing that he wants to be close with her and to love that person and to be with her.
Example: "I just want to love her as my symphony."
6. Epiphany: caused you to have a sudden
clarity/understanding and insight into that
particular relationship.
Example: "She is my moment of epiphany."
Poem #4 Vocabulary:
1. Smother: to overwhelm or suffocate.
Example: "I felt smothered by her endless calls while I was at work."
Poem #5 Vocabulary:
1. Vow: a solemn promise.
Example: "I vow to love you through all hardships, darkness and pain."
2. Vivid: having or producing very clear
and detailed images in the mind.
Example: "Everyday you'll wake up with a vivid feeling that we got married just yesterday."
Poem #6 Vocabulary:
1. Quenching: to satisfy.
Example: "He quenches his feelings by
teasing his sister."
Poem #9 Vocabulary:
1. Personified: also called personalized,
designed or produce (something) to meet
someone's individual requirements.
Example: "I always choose to wear my personified gown."
2. Scepter: a decorated stick that is carried by
a queen or king as a symbol of authority.
Example:"I don't need a royal scepter."
3. Spectre: a ghost; phantom.
Example: "Can become a goddess as well
as spectre."
Poem #10 Vocabulary:
1. Vicious: cruel or violent.
Example: "Because you do vicious things while fighting for the rights of men and women."
Poem # 12 Vocabulary:
1. Isle: an island or peninsula, especially
a small one.
Example: "Love her smile, beautiful like an isle."
2. Devotion: deep love or loyalty.
Example: "Has eyes like an ocean. I'm drowning in her never-ending devotion."
Poem #13 Vocabulary:
1. Asexual: A term used to describe someone
who does not experience sexual attraction
toward individuals of any gender.
Example: "She tells me that she's an
asexual girl."
Freetalking Exercise:
1. Are you scared to fall in love?
2. Have you ever liked someone so much or have fallen deep in love? Did the person reciprocate his/her feelings?
3. Have you ever experienced heartbreak before? Tell us about it.
4. What would you do if the person you loved lived so far away from you? Would you go on a long-distance relationship?
Summary:
Reading poetry is a great way to improve your English reading and pronunciation skills. It can also help build your vocabulary as you learn new vocabulary words that will be beneficial for you in the long run. So, make it a habit to read poetry more often! :)
