Pronunciation Practice - Minimal Pairs

LEARNING OUTCOMES In this lesson we will learn about Minimal pairs, what they are and how they work. We will also practice with many examples to improve your pronunciation!

MINIMAL PAIRS Minimal pairs are two words that are pronounced almost the same, but they have one sound that makes them different. This sound can be a vowel or a consonant. These pairs have nothing to do with spelling or meaning. The words sound similar, but they do not mean the same thing. As a new learner you may struggle to pronounce the two sounds differently. Usually because one or both sounds may not exist in your native language and you possibly can't even hear the difference.

LESSON SUMMARY Minimal pairs are two words that are pronounced almost the same way, but they have one sound that makes them different. Practice makes perfect when growing in your pronunciation. Keep repeating these examples each day and your ear will begin to recognise the sounds differences and therefore you will better pronunciate each word!
