PREPOSITIONS
What are Prepositions?
-prepositions are short words
- They usually stand before nouns or gerund verbs
-prepositions are rather meaningless and hard to define in mere words
-prepositions show relationship between words
EXAMPLES OF PREPOSITIONS
in, on, at, to, of, off, after, before, near, with, through, over, under, beside, besides, against, about, across, along, among, around, behind, below, beneath, between, beyond, by, down, during, for, from, inside, into, like, toward, up, etc
USE OF PREPOSITIONS
1. Prepositions are used to indicate time
2. Prepositions are used to indicate place

6. Prepositions are used to show spatial relationship.
PREPOSITIONS USED TO INDICATE TIME
These Prepositions are used to show the relationship between a noun, pronoun or noun phrase and a particular time/period or moment. Examples
1. On ---- for days of the week
2. In ------ for months and seasons, time of day, year, period of time
3 At ------ used for night, for weekend, a certain point of time
4. Since ------- from a certain point of time (past till now).
5. For ------ from a certain point of time
6. Ago ----++ a certain time in the past
7. Before ----- Earlier than a certain point of time
8. To ----- for telling the time, marking the beginning and end of a period of time
9. Till/ until----- marking the beginning and end of a period of time, in the sense of how long something is going to last
10. By ----++ in the sense of at the latest, up to a certain time
PREPOSITION OF PLACE
Describe the position of person or thing in relation to another person or thing.

2D. Places where you are to do something special. Eg at the market, at the shop

4. Bye/next to/beside...... Left or right of somebody or something. Eg Jane is standing by/beside/next to the car
5. Under .... On the ground, lower than (covered by) something else. Eg The bag is under the table.
6. Below ... lower than something else but above ground. Eg the fish are below the surface
7A. Over ... covered by something else. Eg put a jacket over your shirt.
7B. Over ..... More than. Eg over 16 years of age
7C. Over... Getting to the other side (also across). Eg walk over the bridge.
7D. Over.... Overcoming an obstacle eg climb over the wall.
