Stir-Fried Words
Words can give power to the voiceless,
provide food for thought
morsels sometimes laced with arsenic
or tempered with mercy,
a resounding heartbeat,
elegance in motion,
white noise for the
hushed silence,
a ballet of crimson and evergreen
trapped in a bombardment of collages,
squawking like geese
wearing the wings
of dragons and whippoorwills,
the sharpened edge of knives and swords,
words can ripple
and be ripe for the picking,
tart as lemons
sweet as honey
bitter as vinegar,
veiled like smoky shadows
of stars stalked by moonlight.
Words can build
tabernacles
and bridges
or instantaneously
shatter stained glass.
They can be erased
redacted
removed,
but even uncooked
words still remain
indelibly inked,
like the recurrence of the night.
