Most Popular BEVERAGES in the World
Moscow Mule:
A classic cocktail that was created in New York City in the 1940s, Moscow Mule consists of vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice. Because it contains ginger beer, Moscow Mule is a type of buck (a mixed drink with ginger beer or ale, spirit, and citrus), so it is often referred to as Vodka Buck.
The cocktail is traditionally served in a copper mug, on the rocks, with a lime wheel garnish. Vodka is typically associated with Russia, while mule was supposedly added to the name because ginger beer adds a kick of flavor, hence the name Moscow Mule.
Irish Coffee:
Irish coffee is a hot and potent cocktail invented by Irish chef Joe Sheridan in the 1940s. It consists of black coffee, Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and cream - which should not be whipped, according to the original recipe. Although it originates from Ireland, the drink became popular throughout the world, especially in the USA, where it was brought by a writer named Stanton Delaplane.
There are several variations in the preparation process that can significantly alter the flavor of this warming beverage. It can be made with different types of coffee or served with ice, while whiskey can be replaced with some other spirit. The classic Irish coffee is prepared by pouring hot black coffee in a mug, stirring whiskey and brown sugar into it until fully dissolved, then topping it all with a layer of thick cream.
Ginger Beer:
Originally, ginger beer was an alcoholic brew made from fermented ginger, sugar, and water, however, many of today’s commercial ginger beers have less than .5% alcohol and are classified as non-alcoholic. It originates from England where ginger, water, sugar, and sometimes lemon were fermented and brewed with a starter culture that resulted in a drink with about 11% alcohol.
The carbonation is a natural reaction caused by the brewing process, however, ginger beer tends to be less carbonated than its soft drink counterpart, ginger ale. Ginger beer can be cloudy or clear, and it comes in a variety of different flavors.
Caffè Americano:
Italian caffè Americano is prepared by adding hot water to an already extracted espresso shot. The ratio of coffee and water can vary, but the process should partially dissipate the crema—a creamy foam on top of an espresso. The origins of caffè Americano are vague, though some suggest it was made popular during the Second World War by American soldiers in Europe.
Not accustomed to the intense flavor of espresso, this diluted, milder drink was more suited to their taste. Caffè Americano should not be confused with American coffee, a term that might refer to drip or filtered coffee.
Flat White:
Flat white is a coffee variety that couples a double shot of freshly brewed espresso and milk, which is usually steamed to create a light, silky microfoam. A perfect flat white should have an intense coffee flavor, and milk should only be a complement, not a predominant element, while the froth on top should be less airy and bubbly than in the classic cappuccino or caffè latte.
It is believed that the flat white originated sometime in the 1980s, but it is still disputed whether it initially appeared in Australia or New Zealand.
Frappé:
Although the word frappe first appeared in the 19th century, this Greek coffee variety was invented in 1957. It is made by combining instant coffee with water and ice. The combination is usually prepared in a shaker or a hand mixer, so when the drink is poured in a glass, a frothy foam should appear on top.
The variations may include milk or evaporated milk—when it is often referred to as frapógalo—and the drink can be sweetened according to taste. Traditionally, this coffee is served in a tall glass, and three degrees of sweetness are available.
These include glykós (classified as sweet and typically consisting of four teaspoons of sugar), métrios (medium sweetness with approximately two teaspoons of sugar), or skétos (no sugar). Other specialty versions may also include creamy liqueurs or ice cream, while sometimes the combination can also be mixed with a spoon.
Turkish Coffee:
Extra finely ground roasted coffee beans are combined with cold water (and, optionally, sugar) in a traditional coffee pot called cezve or ibrik, and then brewed over low heat until frothy and on the verge of coming to a boil, yielding a uniquely strong and rich Turkish coffee.
It is this specific method of brewing the beverage that distinguishes this coffee from other coffee types, and it has been attributed to the Turks, hence the name. When prepared properly, Turkish coffee is characterized by a dark color, thick foam on the surface, homogenous consistency, and a strong flavor with notes of bitterness.
Believed to be one of the oldest methods of coffee preparation, this coffee is often flavored with aromatic spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, or mastic, and it is typically consumed from demitasse cups accompanied by a glass of water and a sweet dessert such as Turkish delight or any homemade or store-bought dessert.
Bubble Tea:
Invented in Taichung, Taiwan in the 1980’s, bubble tea is a tea-based beverage that is shaken or mixed with fruit or milk. It is combined with tapioca balls, also known as bubbles, pearls, or boba, so the drink is also often referred to as boba milk tea, boba tea, tapioca tea, pearl tea or bubble drink.
Over the decades, a wide range of ingredients has been included in the production, which resulted in many varieties of bubble tea. Some recipes replace milk with cream, ice cream, or soya milk, and flavor it with chocolate, coffee, ginger, caramel, rose, or lavender.
Others use black tea or green jasmine tea mixed with fresh fruits such as strawberries, apples, mangos, avocados, bananas, coconut, pineapple, kiwi, or peaches. However, the most popular varieties are bubble milk tea with tapioca and bubble green milk tea with tapioca.
Bubble tea is not just a beverage, it's also an interactive game, because you never know which sip will be liquid tea, and which will deliver a sticky and sweet tapioca ball through the giant straw, which is an integral part of the bubble tea experience.
