Why Behaviour Always Does Not Reflect Character
“We need kindness. We need a way to see the difference between people who are and what they sometimes do. And that includes us.” (Matt Haig, “The Comfort Book”)
Actions speak for themselves, but not always.
Emotions, not intelligence, influence our behaviour most of the time.
Even the nicest person can slip, occasionally. They don’t stop being nice people because they behave badly on one occasion.
Even high emotional intelligence is no guarantee people will always behave nicely.
Everyone is fighting their inner demons all the time. Fear, guilt, anger, and anxiety sometimes spill over to outward behaviour.
We have to extend the benefit of the doubt when somebody we know behaves badly. They slipped despite being nice all the time they were with us.
People are more than their worst behaviour. Judge them kindly🙋♂️
