John the Baptist Is Not the Christ 19 The Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask John who he was. John gave witness to them. 1:19 한번은 예루살렘의 유대인들이 요한에게 제사장들과 레위인들을 보내 '당신이 누구요 ?'하고 물어 보게 하였다. 20 He did not try to hide the truth. He spoke to them openly. He said, "I am not the Christ.“ 1:20 그래서 요한이 조금도 숨기지 않고 '나는 그리스도가 아니다.' 하고 솔직하게 말하자 그들은 다시 물었다. 21 They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet we've been expecting?" they asked. "No," he answered. 1:21 '그러면 당신은 누구요 ? 엘리야요 ?' '나는 엘리야가 아니다.' '그럼 우리가 기다리는 예언자인가요 ?' '나는 예언자도 아니다.‘ 22 They asked one last time, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?“ 1:22 '그렇다면 당신은 누구란 말이오 ? 우리를 보낸 사람들에게 대답할 수 있게 해 주시오. 당신은 자신을 어떻게 생각하시오 ?‘ 23 John replied, using the words of Isaiah the prophet. John said, "I'm the messenger who is calling out in the desert, 'Make the way for the Lord straight.' "(Isaiah 40:3) 1:23 '나는 예언자 이사야가 말한 것처럼 '주의 길을 곧게 하라.'고 광야에서 외치는 자의 소리이다.‘ 24 Some Pharisees who had been sent 1:24 그때 바리새파 사람들이 보낸 자들이 25 asked him, "If you are not the Christ, why are you baptizing people? Why are you doing that if you aren't Elijah or the Prophet we've been expecting?“ 1:25 요한에게 '당신이 그리스도도 아니고 엘리야도, 예언자도 아니라면 어째서 세례를 주시오 ?' 하고 물었다. 26 "I baptize people with water," John replied. "But One is standing among you whom you do not know. 1:26 그래서 요한은 그들에게 '나는 너희에게 물로 세례를 주지만 너희 가운데는 너희가 알지 못하는 분이 서 계신다. 27 He is the One who comes after me. I am not good enough to untie his sandals.“ 1:27 그분은 내 뒤에 오시는 분이시다. 나는 그분의 신발끈을 풀어 드릴 자격도 없다.' 하고 대답하였다. 28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan River. That was where John was baptizing. 1:28 이것은 요한이 세례를 주던 요단강 건너편 베다니에서 일어난 일이다. Jesus Is the Lamb of God 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him. John said, "Look! The Lamb of God! He takes away the sin of the world! 1:29 이튿날 요한은 예수님이 자기에게 나오시는 것을 보고 이렇게 말하였다. '보라 ! 세상 죄를 짊어지신 하나님의 어린 양이시다 ! 30 This is the One I was talking about. I said, 'A man who comes after me is more important than I am. That's because he existed before I was born.‘ 1:30 내가 전에 '내 뒤에 오시는 분이 계시는데 그분이 나보다 위대한 것은 나보다 먼저 계셨기 때문이다.'라고 말한 분이 바로 이분이시다. 31 I did not know him. But God wants to make it clear to Israel who this person is. That's the reason I came baptizing with water.“ 1:31 나도 이분을 몰랐으나 이분을 이스라엘 백성에게 알리려고 내가 와서 물로 세례를 준다.‘ 32 Then John told them, "I saw the Holy Spirit come down from heaven like a dove. The Spirit remained on Jesus. 1:32 그리고서 요한은 이렇게 증거하였다. '나는 성령님이 하늘에서 비둘기처럼 내려와 이분 위에 머무시는 것을 보았다. 33 I would not have known him. But the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'You will see the Spirit come down and remain on someone. He is the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.‘ 1:33 나도 전에는 이분을 몰랐다. 그러나 물로 세례를 주라고 나를 보내신 분이 나에게 '성령이 내려와서 어떤 사람 위에 머무는 것을 보거든 그가 곧 성령으로 세례를 주실 분인 줄 알아라.' 하고 일러 주셨다. 34 I have seen it happen. I give witness that this is the Son of God.“ 1:34 그래서 내가 그것을 보고 이분이 하나님의 아들이라고 증거하는 것이다.'
