Humans or Heroes?

Rewritten by: Arismartie When the bombs are raining down Syria and people are fleeing, not everyone is running away from the destruction and chaos, some people are actually running towards it. As they run, they may be thinking of the danger, as there could be more bombs exploding at any minute. But they risk their own lives to try and save anyone who may still be alive under all the debris. This group of people are known as 'The White Helmets.'(because of the white hard hats they wear) 1- raining down:to fall in large amounts violently. 2-fleeing: running away from danger 3-chaos: disorder and confusion / lack of organisation 4-debris: scattered pieces of rubbish and waste/ wreckage.

They don't stop to ask about a person's religion or which 'side' they're on they help regardless. In fact they also risk sniper fire to rescue government soldiers to give them a proper burial. How much do the earn for doing this risky job? Nothing, they are all volunteers with different backgrounds; some are engineers, some bakers, students and many others. And they have paid a severe price for their actions, in the past 3 years that they have been operating at least 141 men and women have been killed while at least 62,000 men and women and children have been saved. 1-regardless: despite of /in any case/ anyway 2-sniper: A person who shoots from a hiding place. 3-burial:burying a dead body. 4-volunteers: people who work for no money . 5-severe: serious/miles/ life threatening. 6-operating: being in charge of

As you can imagine, there is also severe shortage of services such as water and electricity. The White Helmet group also provide some of these public services to almost 7 million people and give safety advice to children. 1- shortage: lack 2-provide: supply/give/deliver.

Many people were calling for them to be awarded by Nobel peace prize but they have been unsuccessful. At the moment, The White Helmet group are continuing to provide vital relief to many thousands of people and invaluable help and assistance. 1-awarded: give a prize or payment 2-vital: crucial/essential/necessary for living 3-relief: reassurance/comfort 4-invaluable: extremely useful. 5-assistance:help /aid/ support

"When I want to save someone's life I don't care if he's an enemy or a friend. What concerns me is the soul that might die"........ Abed, The White Helmets.
