For a book that promises to teach you to attract people, it seems very insecure in its own ability to attract readers, with the writer constantly and rather obnoxiously seemingly asking for your approval. It also claims it's not a book about people pleasing, and yet so much of it teaches you to do exactly that– by the time you reach its fourth chapter (which won't take long, considering each chapter is generally just two pages of frankly obvious advice) it outright tells you to agree with people as much as possible and “[o]nly disagree with people if you have absolutely no other choice”. Yet this fact is swiftly contradicted, where in Chapter 16 the book says: “The worst thing you can do is say things or agree with people just to please them.” This is not the first, nor shall be the last, contradiction in this book– it is almost 150 pages of tips that are surface-level, contradictory and, worst of all, repetitive. I don't know if there needs to be a book with 62 variations of one solution: be nice to people. One could have reached the same conclusion 10x faster by just reading the contents page. I read the book for a laugh, but it was more effective at either annoying me or lulling me to sleep. How to Become a People Magnet might be useful for those completely inexperienced in social niceties, but I didn't find this book particularly magnetic. But hey, at least my edition had a nice cover– thank you, Sourish Mitra, whoever you are.

The extensive content that followed seemed repetitive, as many of the concepts from Part I and Part II were reiterated with additional descriptions. It appeared as if Part I and Part II constituted a comprehensive mini-book, while the subsequent sections were added merely to increase the book's length. Allow me to share some significant points discussed by the author, which primarily revolve around Part I and Part II, as well as a few excerpts from the later sections. At the core of this book is the idea that when engaging with people, it is crucial to focus the conversation on them rather than ourselves. People are, above all, interested in themselves. No matter who you are, people will always be a thousand times more interested in themselves than in you. So, in order to hold a good conversation with people, it's better to talk about "You" and not "I". The most important subject that anyone will want to talk about with you is… THEMSELVES.
