GRAMMAR: Simple Present Tense 1
Goal:
I can use simple present tense with do-verbs.
Grammar Point
Use the simple present tense with do-verbs to talk about routines and unchanging situations.
1. Use the dictionary form of the verb for I, you, we, and they.
DO VERB SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
(I, you, we, they)
eat ➡ eat
live ➡ live
work ➡ work
like ➡ like
example:
I eat breakfast.
You live in California.
We work at a bank.
They like strawberries.
2. Add -s to most do-verbs for he, she, and it.
DO VERB SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
(I, you, we, they)
eat ➡ eats
live ➡ lives
work ➡ works
like ➡ likes
example:
He lives in California.
She works at a bank.
It likes strawberries.
3. Be careful with spelling. For do-verbs that end with -o, -ss, -ch, -sh, or -x, add -es.

kiss ➡ kisses
watch ➡ watches
wash ➡ washes
relax ➡ relaxes
example:
He goes to school.
She kisses her mom.
It watches the birds.
Mark washes the dishes.
My dog relaxes on the sofa.
4. For do-verbs that end with consonant + -y, change y to i and add -es.

Jeff studies Spanish every day.

My bird flies around the living room.
5. Some do-verbs are irregular. You have to memorize their forms for he, she, and it.
