I. Introduction
Remember when they said we are what we eat? Well, it may be that we're in the bacteria in our guts, too.
There are still quite a few dots to connect, but some scientists think that some of the microbes inhabiting our digestive system have something to do with our mood and that our daily diet might have an impact not just on physical health but on stress levels as well.
I. Introduction
In a paper published in Molecular Psychiatry last October, University College Cork researchers in Ireland found that a diet that included servings of whole grains, fermented foods (e.g., yogurt and fiber-rich veggies, fruits and beans seemed to reduce stress.
The study involved a rather small sample of just 45 volunteers and the results were unspectacular, with only a third of the 24 on the prescribed diet reporting a "perceived reduction" in stress.
