Dopamine Detox (part.1 Review)
Yes! I’m ready to stop letting my environment hijack my brain and regain control of it instead. A great guide to a healthier and more productive life. To activate helpful neurotransmitters instead of being dependent on dopamine. My key takeaways:
1. Meditate: even just for a few minutes and focus on each sense.
2. Stretch: to calm and activate an energetic flow.
3. Mindfulness: laser-focused completion of tasks.
4. Contemplative walking: to appreciate every little thing in my surrounding.
5. Deep social interaction: in person and with eye contact.
6. Boredom: to give my mind a break. Just do and think nothing.
Another helpful book, Thibaut Meurisse! Thank you!
Dopamine Detox (part.2 Review)
A great read. There's likely very little in this book that you haven't heard before, but this book presents it all in such a basic and straightforward way that I couldn't help but think "of course I need to do that, why haven't I done that already?"
Within an hour of finishing this book, I removed the final few social media apps with which I had accounts, significantly reduced the number of apps on my phone that can trigger notifications (only texts from my son's mom can get through during the work day), installed a website blocker to remove access to time wasting sites, and moved my phone charger into my office to avoid bedtime or early morning phone use.
On top of this, the book is like 50 pages long, so it's easy to pick up again in the future if I need a motivational refresh.
Dopamine Detox (part.3 Review)
Easy quick read but you don’t get information that’s not already on the internet. The narrative of this book is set in a way that you start thinking about discipling your social media usage.
“to achieve long-term goals in your personal or professional life, you must regain control of your attention and rewire your brain to focus on the long term. To do so, you should start by staying away from highly stimulating activities.”
“Build the foundations for success one brick at a time. Build them strong so that they won’t collapse at the first obstacle or setback”
Dopamine Detox (part.4 Review)
Picked this book up because I knew I could finish it within half an hour or 45 minutes and also I wanted to do something else rather than scroll on Insta in office. Oh, the irony!!
As I took notes of the key points as I read, I realised this book is a lengthy blog post. A lot of filler content for the first 2 chapters and the key content were the sub headings in the last few chapters. Hence the 3 stars.
Dopamine Detox (part.5 Review)
Dopamine Detox is a self-help book that enormously speaks about the visible impacts of procrastination on the chosen career. The author is very clear about the subject and narrates amazingly the ways for successful life.
The mantra for success is well known and the book refreshes the ideas which collectively define a potential performer. The book beautifully balances the manners in which a work can be executed with a calm and composed mind.
The tips provided by the author are quite convincing and appeal well to the working mind. At the end of the day what a toiling person is successful in and to taste it one has to revive the spirit and spring back to rise for the rule.
This short guide is a quick read and the points discussed are well thought out and speak brilliant volumes of sensible directions. If one can divert the distractions to the bottom levels one can win the life project says the detox guide.
Dopamine Detox (part.6 Review)
It's not usual for me to read self help books. But since I really need a dopamine detox these days, I thought that I'd rather read a book about it than just seeing a video. I was not entirely satisfied by the book's content, but sometimes it did have really good methods.
The book is divided into 6-7 parts. The first two of them tell us about how dopamine works, and how other sources such as cell phone, sugar, e.t.c help in hijacking dopamine and controling our body in the wrong way. The next three chapters explain to us the reasons behind dopamine detox, its types, and how to execute the methods.
The last chapter gives us an idea about how we can save ourselves from falling back into our old ways and overstimulating ourselves.
The book wasn't entirely practical in sense, and it gets boring sometimes. But it did help me to atleast understand the idea of dopamine and methods to start a dopamine detox. I don't highly recommend it, but if you want to read something apart from seeing a YouTube video, then this book is a good choice.
Dopamine Detox (part.7 Review)
Listened on audiobook.
TLDR: Nothing profound whatsoever, but good tips for beginners trying to build their self-improvement foundation.
Some things the author discusses, in my words:
Our phones, especially social media, make us very desensitized. As a result, we “give” our focus to these dopamine-boosting activities, instead of focusing on ourselves. So we need to “reclaim” our focuses by reducing + eliminating as much as possible. The author recommended a 48hr cleanse, which I might do. Because he’s right: I have 0 focus, I sometimes think I have ADHD because I can’t concentrate on “one task at a time” at work, so I need to follow his recommendations. Which is basically: microdose being Amish as much as possible (lmao but fr): phones, music, any kind of stimulation. Like go on walks with no headphones and just view your surroundings. Like okay yeah good idea, but still nothing groundbreaking to me personally.
