3 Books That Seriously F*cked My Mind; Why You Should Read Themđ Renuka Gavrani
I have read various kinds of books and enjoy reading almost every genre. However, there are some books that you donât enjoy but these books f*ck your mind and take you in another world of possibilities.
Well, I am talking 3 such books the f*cked my mind and my reaction to these books was, âWhat the hell did I just read?â
And I am quite sure, you will have similar reaction if you read these.
3 Books That Seriously F*cked My Mindđ
1. The Four Agreementsđ
What if I say that whatever you believe in is not true? What if I say that your entire existence is just an illusion? Chances are high you will throw a big tomato on my face, wouldnât you?
But what if someone can prove that your beliefs and your entire journey till now is just an illusion?
Our generation is quite obsessed with the mere word of âjudgementsâ. You open your Instagram and there will be a bunch of people lecturing you over âwhy you shouldnât judge others?â
Well, the answer lies in The Four Agreements. The Four Agreements discuss how we create false beliefs, how we first judge ourselves and then others.đ
For example:Â According to The Four Agreements, we can never judge others without judging ourselves first and the scenario starts something like this, letâs say you believe that an intelligent student is only someone who scores good marks in the class. You, on the other hand, score bare minimum percentage. Now, first you judge yourself and compare yourself with the topper that how he/she is more intelligent than you. You feel really bad and sad about yourself but then starts the ego game. Our sad mind tries to find the comforting place so you judge other students and say âthis boy is so stupid, he doesnât even know how to spell difficult wordsâ
You judge them and feel better that at least you are better than somebody else. And this is how your sad mind takes the form of ego and starts judging others. But all of this started because you had a false belief.đ
Letâs take another example,
If I ask you whatâs your definition of success, what would you say? I can bet you will either answer those typical beliefs that society has stuffed in your mind or you will come up with a filtered definition of success just because you read somewhere âitâs not necessary to wear black suit, and have millions of dollars in your bank balance to become successfulâ
If you donât take it offensively and answer my question honestly, you will know how our society has ruined our entire life by filling our innocent brain with stupid definition of everything.
âEvery human is an artist. The dream of your life is to make beautiful art.â
The Four Agreements is the book that will first introduce to
âHow we form beliefs,
âHow we start believing in our beliefs more than our intellect
Then how you can form new beliefs for yourself and the author has also suggested 4 new beliefs which we calls agreements for a happier and more successful life which are:
1. Be Impeccable with your words
2. Donât make assumptions
3. Always give your best
4. Donât take anything personally
If there is one book that I suggest everyone should read for a calm and happy life, itâs The Four Agreements. You will be an entirely different person after reading this book. You can check the whole review here.
âYou can have many great ideas in your head, but what makes the difference is the action. Without action upon an idea, there will be no manifestation, no results, and no rewardâ
2. Factfulnessđ
Can you do me a favor? Take out a moment of your time, close your eyes and imagine all the beauty and resources that the universe has given us in abundance. Now, tell me what you think we have done to this beautiful world?
If you are anything like me then I guess your answer would be that we have just shattered the world by creating unnecessary inventions that pollute environment, we have given the universe the gift of poverty, mass rapes, global warming, child labor, wars and much more than this.
Although, it is quite true that we have not missed even a single chance to destroy our beautiful planet but there is another side to this coin.đ
Factfulness, as the name itself suggests, this book is the collection of various research and global data that proves how the world is actually improving. Child labor, rape cases, poverty are declining and healthy lifestyle, child literacy, women empowerment are rising.
The book is not only useful to tell you about the improvements in the world and how we are wrong about the world but it is also about why we need to observe data before forming any decision. Critical thinking and logical thinking is dead these days and Factfulness helps us to develop it.
âThereâs no room for facts when our minds are occupied by fear.âđ
3. Influence; The Psychology of Persuasionđ
I was the most innocent person before reading this book but after this, I got to know how clever marketers, politicians and other people use the psychology tricks to trap us in a vicious cycle.
Influence is a book on how we can use the underrated psychology tricks to persuade people and make them our puppet. Yes, I am serious!
I donât think I can do justice to this book even if I say thousands of words. In fact, my mind is still in shock about how I was being fooled till date.
âA well-known principle of human behavior says that when we ask someone to do us a favor we will be more successful if we provide a reason. People simply like to have reasons for what they do.â
If there is one book that you must read to protect yourself against this clever world, Influence will be your companion. Also, if you are a marketer or sales person then this book is a goldmine for you.
I have read these 3 books and I completely loved them. My mind is now more clear than it ever was. Go and grab one of these books to change how you think and perceive the world.
