Basic Korean Grammar

In today's session we will focus on basic Korean grammer. 1. Be able to create plural words in Korean. 2. Be able to identify subject, verb, object and adjective in Korean sentences. 3. Be able to create basic sentences in Korean.

Like English, Korean nouns encompass people, names, and objects. Examples: 공: ball 가수: singer 드라마: Drama 은비: Eunbee (name) 불고기: seasoned pork or beef (bulgogi)

Koreans use ~들 to form plurals of nouns. Example: Flower: 꽃 (singlular) Flowers: 꽃들 (plural) Song: 노래 (singular) Songs: 노래들 (plural) Language: 언어 (singular) Languages: 언어들 (plural)

나: me 너: you (informal) 당신: you (formal) 그: he 그녀: she 우리: we 그들: they

May be considered as helper verb or to be verb of English. Not considered a verb but a part of a sentence in Korean. Example: 나는 학생입니다: I am a student 나는 공부하고 있습니다: I am studying.

먹다: to eat 마시다: to drink 노래하다: to sing 시청한다: to see (tv or movie) 보다: to see (a person) 읽다: to read

Present: 나는 물을 마신다. (I drink water) Past: 나는 물을 마셨다. (I drank water) Future: 나는 물을 마실거다 (I will drink water) Present perfect: 나는 물을 마시고있다. (I am drinking water) Past perfect: 나는 물을 마셨을 것이다. (I will have drunk water)

Objects in Korean is a person or thing (noun) that is used as the recepient of an action (verb)

I eat food: 나는 밥을 먹는다 He eats food: 그는 밥을 먹는다 She eats food: 그녀는 밥을 먹는다 We eat food: 우리는 밥을 먹는다 They eat food: 그들은 밥을 먹는다

I drink water: 나는 물을 마신다. He drinks water: 그는 물을 마신다. She drinks water: 그녀는 물을 마신다. We drink water: 우리는 물을 마신다. They drink water: 그들은 물을 마신다.

I sing: 나는 노래한다. He sings: 그는 노래한다. She sings: 그녀는 노래한다. We sing: 우리는 노래한다. They sing: 그들은 노래한다.

I watch K-drama: 나는 드라마를 시청한다. He watches K-drama: 그는 드라마를 시청한다. She watches K-drama: 그녀는 드라마를 시청한다. We watch K-drama: 우리는 드라마를 시청한다. They watch K-drama: 그들은 드라마를 시청한다.

I see a car: 나는 차를 본다 He sees a car: 그는 차를 본다 She sees a car: 그녀는 차를 본다 We see a car: 우리는 차를 본다 They see a car: 그들은 차를 본다

I read a book: 나는 책을 읽는다. He reads a book: 그는 책을 읽는다. She reads a book: 그녀는 책을 읽는다. We read a book: 우리는 책을 읽는다. They read a book: 그들은 책을 읽는다.
