The following is the first group of Korean consonants you need to imprint in your mind. There is no easy way to explain them, you just have to memorise them:
ᄇ = b
ᄌ = j
ᄃ = d
ᄀ = k
ᄉ = s
Next there are the basic vowels you need to learn. Again, do what you can to memorise them.
ᅵ = i
ᅡ = a
ᅥ = eo (translit as ‘eo’ but that sounds more to an a/ò in Italian or to a ‘uh’ in English – again check with Google Translator the pronunciation)
ᅳ = eu
ᅮ = u
ᅩ = o
You will notice that the first 3 vowels are drawn vertically, while the other 3 are drawn horizontally. If you can see what I mean, look at the following figure for a more detailed depiction:
