"PER SE"
Meaning:
Latin term or phrase meaning "in itself" or "by itself".
When to use?
It is used when emphasizing other factors/idea/thing
to indicate that something is thought of independently, without any additional factors or context.
Example:
"Money per se does not make people happy. True happiness comes from the relationship you build with others."
"Money (by itself) does not make people happy" -> by saying this, we emphasize the importance of the next idea (True happiness comes from the relationship you build with others)
Other Examples:
Karen’s new restaurant is not expensive per se, but the menu can be pretty pricey.
The idea, per se, is not bad, but the execution needs work.
